Tooth Gem FAQs
Are tooth gems permanent?
Tooth gems are a semi-permanent adornment for your teeth. They can last anywhere from a few months to a few years.
Does the tooth gem procedure hurt?
Not at all! The procedure for applying tooth gems is safe and easy—no drilling required. The process takes approximately 20 minutes. Our trained professional uses a dental-grade etch and adhesive to bond the tooth gem to your tooth. An LED light is then used to cure the adhesive, ensuring a long-lasting bond. The process is very similar to the technique used to attach traditional braces to teeth.
How do I remove the tooth gem?
Tooth gems are designed to fall off naturally, but they may be removed at any time. We offer tooth gem removal as well.
Are there any food restrictions when wearing a tooth gem?
For the first few hours, do not eat or drink anything other than water. Avoid hard foods and candies for the first 48 hours.
What should I avoid after a tooth gem application?
After getting your new tooth gem, it’s important to follow proper aftercare guidelines. For the first two hours, do not eat or drink anything other than water. Avoid picking at or playing with the gem, and refrain from consuming hard foods, candies, or alcohol for the first 12 hours. Also, do not brush directly over the gem during this period, and avoid using an electric toothbrush for the first 48 hours. The adhesive bond can take between 48 and 72 hours to fully cure, so try to maintain a less acidic pH in your mouth during this time to help the gem remain bonded. After 48 hours, you can resume your normal dental hygiene routine, although it’s best to brush gently over the tooth gem to prevent damage or dislodging.
Can I get a tooth gem if I’m under 18 and have parental permission?
Yes, you must be 18 or older to get a tooth gem. If you are under 18, parental consent is required, and your parent or guardian must be present.
